Overwatch 2 [1] may have seen much competition from multiple games recently, but that doesn’t mean it lost its entire player base. On the contrary, as games like Marvel Rivals continue to gain relevance, some players find themselves wanting to enjoy the old and simple Overwatch 2 again.
Activision Blizzard realizes there’s still potential for its game to grow, which is why the team continues to collaborate with known IPs. The latest IP to get the collab treatment with Overwatch 2 is Gundam Wing, and here is which heroes will see Gundam skins for players to acquire.
Here’s what to know about the Overwatch 2 and Gundam Wing collaboration.
Overwatch 2 heroes transform into Gundam Wing mechs
Blizzard is releasing a new crossover in Overwatch 2 starting April 29 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. Mercy, Reaper, Soldier: 76, and Ramattra will receive skins inspired by the 90s anime. Mercy will become Wing Zero, Reaper will be Deathscythe, Soldier: 76 will represent Tailgeese, and Ramattra will be Epyon.
Art director Dion Rogers and associate director of product management Aimee Dennett revealed that while there are 43 heroes in the game, not every character can be part of the crossover. Ana was the initial consideration for a Tailgeese skin because of her similar weapon style, but the team dropped the idea. Mauga was a Heavyarms option, but the design did not meet the team’s expectations, so they began exploring other alternatives.
The team used Gunpla model kits to help with the design process. Rogers mentioned that players can notice detailed mechanical touches, such as hinges on the fingers, if they look closely. Overwatch 2’s main menu will include special artwork created by one of the original Gunpla box artists whenever the event starts.

Heroes cosplay Gundam Wing suits, not pilot them
Blizzard clarified that the crossover skins are designed as cosplays instead of transformations. Bandai requested that the hero designs remain visible in the final skins, which explains why features like Mercy’s glowing wings are visible with her Wing Zero armor.
Rogers described the collaboration as a passion project for the development team, with Gundam being a key influence on numerous artists.
