League of Legends’ Swarm game mode allows players to play as a handful of Champions as they dominate one of the only PvE game modes in the game. However, as with the regular game modes, some Champions are significantly better than others, even if it can get a little tough to narrow down the best ones.
Fortunately, we’re here to help. Today, we’ll rank all of the best Champions to play as in League of Legends’ Swarm mode from worst to best. While this list is largely based on our opinion, we’ll also expand on why they’re placed where they are to ensure we’re all on the same boat.
So, without any more dillydallying, here are all Swarm PvE Champions ranked from worst to best.
What are the best champions to play as in the Swarm game mode in League of Legends?
In the new game mode Swarm, players can only play nine Champions from the League of Legends character roster, and choosing the right one is essential to survive as long as possible and support your teammates. Every playable champion has unique abilities and mechanics, which means each has pros and cons.
Swarm plays differently from regular League of Legends matches, so the tier lists for the base game won’t apply here. The following list will rank every champion in the new mode and explain who to avoid, who to play, and why.

Worst to best champions to play as in Swarm
9: Jinx
Starting off our list is Jinx. She’s okay in the early stages of the game mode, but her lack of range and defensive statistics like armor, health, and shield make her squishy and prone to dying against swarms of enemies.
8: Aurora
Aurora is one of the worst champions to play in Swarm due to her low offensive capabilities, thanks to her abilities and overall squishiness. Although she can be helpful in the late game, it’s not worth going through the entire process of upgrading her.
7: Riven
Unlocking Riven can take time, but it’s worth it in the long run. She’s a great champion with the right weapons and upgrades and can hold her own until she gets them. Her built-in shield provides amazing defense throughout the game and lets her survive.
6: Seraphine
Seraphine is one of the best team-oriented playable champions in the game mode, with Swarm as her E ability, which is a shield. In the later stages of Swarm, she can continuously make shields for her team to keep them alive and survive for as long as possible.
5: Briar
The only reason Briar is this high in the list is because she’s probably the best champion to play as on the third map. Besides that one map, she isn’t worth picking at all.
4: Leona
Leona is very tanky and has numerous AoE attacks that she can do with her weapons and her E ability. Another great thing is her built-in shield, so she’s a great mix between offense and defense.
3: Xayah
Unlocking Xayah takes a lot of grinding, but considering how strong she is in Swarm, it's worth it. Her abilities make her a valuable pick in any team composition.
2: Illaoi
Illaoi is the ideal champion to pick if the team requires a tank. Her great defense and ultimate ability allow her to protect teammates by being the frontline and defeating mini-bosses.
1: Yasuo
Even though Yasuo isn’t the best champion in the early phases of the game, he becomes almost unstoppable later when he gets the proper weapons and upgrades. Just make sure to maximize Tornadoes in matches.
