With a bustling community and constant updates bringing new and cool characters from the Marvel Universe, we don’t think the game is going anywhere any time soon. However, while every player has access to the same pool of characters, it’s still possible to personalize your experience through skins.

Unlocking skins, also known as costumes, is the most exciting way to customize your heroes and stand out in the game. Whether you’re looking for iconic costumes or exclusive limited-time designs, skins add a personal touch to your gameplay. This guide will take you through the best ways to earn skins, from mastering the Battle Pass to in-game events and promotions. So, without further ado, here’s every way to get skins in Marvel Rivals, including every free skin in the game.

How to unlock skins in Marvel Rivals:

The two primary ways players can unlock skins is either through the in-game store or by progressing in the Battle Pass. However, an alternate way for players to get new skins is by redeeming codes, though we didn’t mention that method here since it’s usually timed or comes with requirements.

1. The Store

The most obvious method is to use the in-game store, where you’ll find the largest variety of available skins. Players can purchase costumes using Units or Lattice. The costumes are mostly colorful designs inspired by beloved comic versions and highly popular appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 

2. The Battle Pass

Marvel Rivals has a dual-tiered battle pass system that allows you to earn access to exclusive skins by participating. The standard battle pass will have limited rewards; for example, the first season features only one free skin. To unlock all seasonal exclusive skins and rewards, players must upgrade to the Luxury Battle Pass. This premium pass gives access to all rewards across every page, giving users more ways to customize their characters and leaving players eligible for the most coveted cosmetics during the season.

Every free skin and how to get it

Before the official launch of Marvel Rivals, developers confirmed that players could unlock some free cosmetics from the game. Currently, there are eight free skins available for player use, usually tied with time-limited events or seasonal rewards that have fixed deadlines. These are obtainable through codes, achievements, subscriptions, and platform drops.

Hela - Empress of The Cosmos

• How to get: Season 0 Battle Pass, Page 3, 400 Chrono tokens
• Available Until: 01/10/25

You’ll find this skin available on the third page of the Battle Pass. You may be confused after seeing the Chrono Tokens above since this is technically a ‘free skin’; To unlock it, you need to earn a total of 2,400 Chrono Tokens, and then you'll need to spend 400 tokens to claim the skin. You can earn Crono Tokens conveniently by playing regularly, making it easy to obtain.

Iron Man - Armor Model 24

• How to get: Redeem code - nwarh4k3xqy
• Available Until: 03/05/25

Players can have their very own special Iron Man suit as a limited-time gift in honor of the game's release by using the code before March 2025. Redeeming the code is fast and easy:

1. Open the settings menu by clicking the gear icon in the top right corner.
2. Select "Bundle Code".
3. Enter the code into the provided field.
4. Then, click on "Use" to claim your reward.

Marvel Rivals has given Jeff a seasonal makeover and a Splatoon-inspired game mode made just for him. This one is pretty straightforward: all you have to do is complete the missions in this event to obtain this cute skin as a reward!

4. Moon Night - Golden Moonlight

• How to get: Season 0; reach Gold Rank or higher in competitive
• Available Until: 01/10/25

Moon Knight shines in pure Gold with this skin, but it’s a reward reserved for those who reach Gold rank or higher in Competitive mode in Season 0; this means that it’s not an easy feat for Bronze players who are just starting.

Competitive play unlocks at level 10, so securing this exclusive look would require some serious rank climbing. However, another perk is that you'd get more cosmetics as well while leveling up. The higher you get, the more prestigious your collection will be!

5. Peni Parker - VEN#M

• How to get: PlayStation Plus subscription reward
• Available Until: 01/10/25

This exclusive pack containing Peni Parker's VEN#M skin from Marvel Rivals is up for grabs for PlayStation Plus members. Not only does the pack include the skin, but it also gives additional themed content like MVP poses and sprays. However, this package is available only for PS5 players, making it a unique benefit for subscribers of that specific platform.

6. Spider-Man - Scarlet Spider

• How to get: PlayStation Store (only PS5)
• Available Until: Always

This one is pretty self-explanatory. PlayStation 5 users can obtain this skin by claiming it from their PlayStation Store, and it will automatically show in their Marvel Rivals account.

7.  Star-Lord - Jovial Star

• How to get: 400 Heroic Journey achievement points
• Available Until: Always

By earning 400 Achievement Points in the Heroic Journey category, you can obtain Star-Lord’s Jovial Star skin. Unlike the others, there’s no need to rush for this one as it’s permanently available.

8. Storm - Ivory Breeze

• How to get: 200 Heroic Journey achievement points
• Available Until: Always

This is easily obtainable by gaining 200 Achievement Points in the Heroic Journey category. It’s just like Star-Lord’s skin, but easier to achieve. Again, it’s permanently available so you don’t have to worry about it disappearing; anyone who keeps playing regularly will have no trouble getting this skin. 

What about the closed beta skin?

Eagle-eyed players may have noticed that we didn’t mention the Venom skin players could exclusively acquire for participating in the closed beta. However, we didn’t mention it here as those who participated in the closed beta likely already claimed the skin, while those who didn’t can’t acquire it for free. Therefore, we don’t believe it deserves a spot on the list of free skins for Marvel Rivals.

FAQs

Do skins change the character’s abilities?

Not at all. Skins in Marvel Rivals are purely cosmetic and don’t affect the player’s gameplay at all. Some skins may originate from comics or movies where the character has different abilities, they don’t carry over in the game and simply change how the character looks. Because of this, it doesn’t matter if the player uses a mod to make Magic look like Sora from Kingdom Hearts since the overall gameplay and abilities will remain the same.
