Overwatch 2 has seen much controversy since it initially came out. From players saying the game shouldn’t exist at all to Marvel Rivals coming out and absolutely dominating the hero shooter genre. However, that doesn’t mean the game has lost all relevance, as Activision Blizzard is now pulling out all the stops to ensure it can recapture its lost fans.
Season 16 of Overwatch 2 is slated to mark a major change in Overwatch 2 and its overall gameplay. From a new game mode to a new hero, the game will have many additions as well as the return of loot boxes, ensuring the game sees a revamp. There will also be hero band and map voting to make the game more convenient, though it remains to be seen how all the changes are received by fans.
So, without further ado, here’s everything coming to Overwatch 2 in Season 16. If you want to get a leg up by climbing the ranks before the new season comes around, we recommend you have a professional booster from Eloking show you the ropes. New game mode: Stadium
Season 16 will introduce Stadium, Overwatch 2’s most ambitious and transformative game mode ever. Unlike other modes, Stadium is a best-of-7 system where players earn coins after every round to spend on powerful upgrades and modify their hero’s abilities.
These modifications allow players to modify their playstyle for a fresh and dynamic approach to every match. Some powerful upgrades that Blizzard mentioned are:
Reinhardt: Gets the ability to charge through the air and land behind enemy lines and a Firestrike that spreads lava.
Soldier: 76: Increases teammates’ attack speed when they stand in his Biotic Field.
Kiriko: Throws three kunai simultaneously and can teleport directly to enemies to engage.
Mercy: Can deal heavy damage, shield dead teammates while resurrecting them, and create an offensive toolkit.
The Stadium mode allows players to explore new ways of playing heroes, allowing for creative strategies and unpredictable fights.
Also, Stadium introduced a third-person perspective in an official Overwatch game mode. This camera mode allows players to look at a broader battlefield and see the full impact of their new abilities in action. For example, D.Va’s upgraded mech can leave a trail of lava while boosting, making it easier for users to track movement and avoid the enemy’s attacks.
Stadium features a revamped user interface with new icons and visual effects that streamline ability customization. Players can buy, review, and sell mods and keep track of the enemy team’s builds to change their strategy accordingly.
Initially, Stadium will include 14 core heroes with plans to expand the roster, add new maps, and introduce more modes based on player feedback. This new mode is an evolution for Overwatch 2, giving casual and competitive players fresh experiences.
New Overwatch 2 Hero: Freja
A new damage hero, Freja, will join the Overwatch 2 roster in Season 16, bringing a unique playstyle to Overwatch 2. She’s a former search and rescue operative turned bounty hunter specializing in precision attacks and mobility-based engagements. Her weapon is the Revdraw Crossbow, which deals high burst damage.
Here are Freja’s abilities:
Revdraw Crossbow: Fires numerous bolts to deal damage.
Take Aim: Shoots an explosive bolt that detonates on impact.
Quick Dash: Allows Freja to dash in any direction and reload her explosive bolt.
Updraft: Freja launchers herself into the air to reach high ground or evade enemy attacks.
Bola Shot: Throws an explosive bola that catches an enemy and pulls in nearby opponents to deal AoE damage.
Freja’s toolkit makes her an incredible choice for players who love a fast-paced playstyle. She rewards users with quick reflexes, accuracy, and strategic positioning, making her one of the most tough characters in the game.
Players will get the opportunity to try Freja during a free trial weekend in Season 15, giving players the chance to test her out before her launch in Season 16.

Hero bans and map voting in competitive
Season 16 will introduce two changes to Overwatch 2’s competitive mode: Hero bans and map voting.
Hero bans will probably work similarly to other competitive titles like Rainbow Six Siege or League of Legends, where both teams ban a few characters at the start of every match. This mechanic will ensure that frustrating or overpowered heroes aren’t in every game, so players must change their strategies.
Overwatch’s current competitive mode randomly selects a map and a game mode upon finding a match, but Season 16 will introduce a map voting system. It might function like Counter-Strike 2, where teams can ban maps they dislike until one is left.
These changes will improve the condition of the competitive mode to keep players engaged and ensure every match won’t feel the same.
Mythic skins and new collaborations
Season 16 will introduce new Overwatch 2 skins like a DokiWatch-themed collection. Players can expect a Mythic skin for Juno and a Mythic weapon skin for Mercy. Future updates after Season 16 will bring more skins to the game, like a D.Va Mythic Hero Skin inspired by a Siberian tiger and a Mythic Weapon skin that captures Gabriel Reyes’ transformation into Reaper.
Overwatch 2 plans to collaborate with numerous brands and franchises. Season 15 features the return of the K-pop group LE SSERAFIM, and Blizzard promises more collaborations throughout 2025.
