Gen.G’s Valorant team re-signs Lakia

Gen.G’s Valorant team re-signs Lakia

The most significant evidence that the esports professional gaming scene is extremely dynamic is the high number of players who have their contracts revoked or not extended. Despite many players giving it their all to ensure they can lead their teams to victory, it just takes one bad season or year for the team to kick them off.

The good thing is that some players take this as a sign to improve and ensure the team regrets kicking them out, being forced to resign the player with a more attractive contract. The same has seemingly happened with Lakia, who Gen.G resigned despite the VCT being ongoing, though his situation was different since he willingly took a step back from professional play.

Here’s what to know about Gen.G re-signing Lakia in its Valorant roster.

Lakia returns to the Gen.G Valorant roster

Gen.G Esports has officially announced [1] the return of Kim “Lakia” Jong-min to its Valorant roster. This marks Lakia’s second time with the team. His previous stint saw major success, including a second-place finish at Masters Madrid 2024 and a championship win at Masters Shanghai 2024. The Korean veteran is now back after a one-year break from professional play.

Lakia is one of the most experienced players in the Korean Valorant scene. He transitioned to the game in 2020 after competing in Counter-Strike, joining the legendary Vision Strikers roster that later became part of DRX. Alongside top players like MaKo and BuZz, he reached Masters Berlin 2021 and placed third at Masters Reykjavík that same year.

In October 2023, Lakia joined Gen.G for the first time. His time with the team led to titles at both Masters Shanghai and VCT Pacific Stage 2 in 2024. However, he parted ways with the organization during the off-season, along with Kim ‘Meteor’ Tae-oh. Meteor later joined T1, while Lakia stepped away to recover from a wrist injury.

After spending a year focusing on esports consulting, Lakia announced in June 2025 that he was open to returning to competition. Gen.G picked him up shortly after, bringing him back to reunite with former teammates Kim ‘t3xture’ Na-ra and Kim ‘Karon’ Won-tae.

It’s not yet clear if Lakia will play in Gen.G’s next match. The team has not confirmed which player he might replace in the starting five, though there’s a good chance the player is being brought back as the sixth, so fans may not see him shine much.
