Fortunately, in addition to the typical settings you would expect, Valve also lets players change their FOV, or Field of Vision.
The FOV in CS2 can be changed by launching the game and going to the in-game settings. From there, go down to the item section, where you’ll see Viewmodel Position. Here, choose one of three options depending on whether you want the typical CS 1.6/CS:GO FOV or something more modern.
Here’s what to know about your FOV in Counter-Strike 2, including what it is and how you can change it.
How does FOV work in Counter-Strike 2?
The field of view (FOV) in Counter-Strike 2 works slightly differently than in other shooters like Valorant or Apex Legends. Instead of being an option where you can stretch or shrink your vision to an extreme, Counter-Strike 2 gives you a shorter FOV range between 54 and 68. It is to ensure everyone has roughly the same vision to keep things fair.
It is also worth noting that what you are adjusting in Counter-Strike 2 is the viewmodel FOV and not your actual field of vision on the map. This setting affects how your weapon appears on screen, including its size, angle, and distance from the center. Therefore, it is important to tweak this setting for a sharper and more competitive edge.

How can you change your viewmodel FOV in Counter-Strike 2?
Thankfully, you do not have to dig into config files or install any mods to customize your viewmodel in Counter-Strike 2. Valve has made it easy, and there are two main ways to do it.
Option 1: Change it visually through in-game settings
This is the go-to method for a quick and easy adjustment. It only takes a few clicks and can be done without typing anything.
Start by launching Counter-Strike 2.
Head to Settings > Game.
Scroll down to the Item section.
Find the Viewmodel Position setting and choose from one of the three options available.
There are three viewmodel options to choose from. Each preset will automatically shift your weapon’s position on the screen. Desktop is the default angle most people stick with, while Classic is for people who prefer the old CS1.6/CS:GO vibe. Assuming you want more screen and less gun, Couch will be the best as it pulls your weapon to the side and prioritizes visibility.
Option 2: Use console commands for precise settings
In case none of the presets seem like the right fit for you, you can always enter custom console commands for the best precision. For this, you must first ensure the developer console is turned on:
Go to Settings > Game > Enable Developer Console = Yes
Click ~ (tilde key) to bring up the console.
Now, type in these commands to fine-tune your viewmodel:
Viewmodel_fov 54-68 (68 pushes your gun furthest back for maximum visibility).
Viewmodel_offset_x -2 to 2 (moves your weapon left or right).
Viewmodel_offset_y -2 to 2 (shifts it forward or backward).
Viewmodel_offset_z -2 to 2 (controls the vertical position; higher or lower).
In case you want to jump back to a preset after experimenting, use these commands:
viewmodel_presetpos 1 = Desktop
viewmodel_presetpos = Couch
Viewmodel_presetpos = Classic
What is the best FOV setting for you?
There is no universally best FOV setting in Counter-Strike 2, as it all depends on your role, playstyle, and setup. Entry fraggers and aggressive riflers prefer a higher FOV between 60-68. It pulls the weapon back for more screen space, helping spot enemies quickly during past pushes. It is also great for players with ultrawide monitors who want maximum map awareness.
Meanwhile, AWPers or anchors on tight angles prefer a lower FOV between 54-60. The zoomed-in view keeps the weapon centered, helping with focus and consistency. It is also useful for players lining up utility as it reduces visual clutter and keeps the view stable. Before jumping into a live match, take time to experiment in a custom game with bots until it feels just right.
Go to Settings > Game > Item and adjust the Viewmodel Position (Desktop, Classic, Couch). For precise control, enable the developer console and use commands like `viewmodel_fov`.
