League of Legends has so many champions that players have trouble countering. However, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that Fizz is one of the most annoying champions. The champion can comfortably tower dive, and his burst damage potential is insane.
The good news is that it’s more than possible to counter Fizz in League of Legends. All you have to do is learn to avoid his combos by utilizing the right items and champion abilities so that you come out on top after every scuffle.
If you’ve been struggling to counter Fizz in League of Legends, we have you covered.
How to avoid Fizz’s all-ins and dodge his combo in League of Legends?
Fizz is an assassin, so his kit revolves around closing the gap, easily escaping, and a long-range ultimate that sets up windows where he can deal burst damage. Players need to respect Fizz’s engagement range. If he’s close enough to land his Q and W, then he can usually finish the trade with his E, which makes him untargetable and lets him escape.
The most important thing to do is play around his E and track its cooldown, like forcing Fizz to use E defensively, then punish him while it’s on cooldown. Fizz’s ultimate can end games if he uses it right because it attaches, marks, then summons a shark that knocks up and deals heavy damage, so players must avoid grouping and walking predictably to prevent him from landing his R reliably.
Best items to survive Fizz’s burst damage in League of Legends
Items that deny his burst or provide the player with survivability during his combo make him manageable. Early magic resistance or anti-burst tools, such as Mercury’s Threads, Banshee’s Veil, or Zhonya’s Hourglass for AP champions, are excellent items that prevent Fizz from getting an easy kill.
AD and bruiser champions can purchase items like the Hexdrinker component or Maw of Malmortius to give them enough time to respond after his first burst. If the player already has magic resistance, then Death’s Dance can be a good pickup because even though it only gives armor, its ability spreads the damage dealt over 3 seconds, giving players time to fight back.
Another great option is Kaenic Rookern, which tanks and some bruisers can build. It provides a magic shield that negates the initial damage and has high magic resistance, giving players enough time to counter. Although some champions might have to give up damage for this item, it’s worth it if they want to survive against Fizz.
Best champions against Fizz in League of Legends
Fizz has a hard time when he can’t safely reach the player or when his mobility is punished by crowd control. Picks that can outrange him and punish his roams, or those that lock him down, are great choices. Champions like Lissandra, Malzahar, and Galio can stop Fizz with hard crowd control and defensive abilities.
Kassadin and Ryze are also good picks for outscaling or matching his pattern. Mobile assassins like Zed and Akali can escape Fizz’s bursts and dodge them, but it’s a skill match-up. The best options are champions that can absorb or negate his starting combo and force him into bad trades.
How to punish Fizz’s roams and map pressure in League of Legends
Most Fizz players shove mid and roam, so stopping his easy roams is huge for the team. If players can keep the wave frozen or shove him into the tower, then he loses his ability to side lane and roam. It’s important to track his position on the map and ping when he’s used his ultimate or is missing.
Good vision and patience can stop his kill attempts. If the player’s jungler is nearby, then they can force an all-in after Fizz has used his E because he has no way to escape. Warding bushes around the river and the lane can help keep vision on him and reduce the success of his roams.
