This includes why spectating can be a game-changer and which modes you can spectate other players in.

Why spectate in Overwatch 2?
Before we get into how you can spectate a game in Overwatch 2, it is essential to understand why you might want to do so in the first place. Players can find themselves spectating the game for several reasons, so let's discuss some important ones. That way, you have a good idea of what to look for, and how to make the most out of your spectating time.
Spectating in Overwatch 2 can allow you to analyze team compositions. Based on the heroes chosen by each player in the team, strategies and tactics can vary. Certain compositions can elevate a team's overall strength, while some may result in weaknesses, so be sure to keep a good eye on combos that end up with the best results.
Analyzing how to traverse the map during fights is also a key factor in the overall outcome of a match. Observing the map, objectives, and playstyles can play a huge role in determining the overall outcome of the match, helping you perfect your strategies that can be implemented later on.
Which modes can be spectated in Overwatch 2?
As of now, the modes that support spectating are Quick Play, Arcade, and Custom Games. This includes all the modes that fall under standard play, which is available in Quick Play. So as long as you keep to these modes, you can continue to spectate games without any worries.
However, Blizzard has removed the ability to spectate Ranked Mode. the reason for this is that some players were exploiting the spectate option to receive an unfair advantage in ranked and competitive games, often at times having a teammate spectate the enemy team who would alert them about the enemy team's strategies.

How to spectate a match in Overwatch 2?
In Quick Play or Arcade mode, you'll need to join a friends match to spectate them. So, check which one of your friends is currently online, and wait for them to join a match first. After they have joined a match, click on your friend's username. Upon clicking, you'll find the option that says "Spectate." Click on it, which will take you to their game. From there, you can cycle through different players in the team.
Custom games are a little different. Firstly, you'll need to join a custom game. From there, if you look at the bottom of the screen, it gives you an option to select the team you want to spectate. After that, simply start the match, and it'll take you in as a spectator. This mode offers a bit more versatility in terms of watching, as you can spectate players from both teams. If you wish to change teams, simply ask the host/lobby creator, and they will change the team you're spectating.
