League of Legends: Upcoming Swain Rework Update

League of Legends: Upcoming Swain Rework Update

Riot Games is preparing to release a major rework for Swain, one of the game’s iconic champions. With insights from Riot's Ray Williams, we now have a clearer picture of the upcoming changes aimed at enhancing Swain's versatility and effectiveness in various roles. Here’s a look at what players can expect from this exciting update.

The upcoming Swain rework focuses on reducing his reliance on specific item effects, increasing the reliability of his abilities in PvP, and making him viable in both mid lane and support roles. The rework aims for improvements to his ability mechanics and a consistent gameplay experience. It is planned to be released by the end of this year.

Let us dive further into all of these mechanical changes one at a time.

Reduced Reliance on Item Effects

One of the primary goals of the Swain rework is to minimize his dependence on systematic item effects, such as Rylai’s, especially during his ultimate. Swain’s power should not be tied exclusively to specific builds, allowing for more flexibility and diversity in gameplay. This change will make Swain less item-dependent and more effective with various build paths.

Increased Reliability of E

Swain's E ability, Nevermove, is set to receive significant improvements to enhance its reliability in PvP scenarios. This adjustment will make it easier for Swain players to hit and pull enemies, addressing one of the most critical aspects of his gameplay. The developers are considering making E faster or allowing players to select its travel distance, making it more user-friendly and impactful.

Enhancements to Q and Ultimate Abilities

Swain's Q ability, Death’s Hand, will see increased reliability and DPS, particularly in lane matchups. This change aims to make Swain more consistent in solo lane engagements.

Additionally, his ultimate, Demonic Ascension, will be adjusted to be more visible and impactful in quick fights and smaller skirmishes. An exciting change is that the ultimate’s active explosion could occur multiple times, based on a threshold of drained health, making it more versatile and deadly.

Balancing Solo Lane and Support Roles

Riot wants to ensure Swain is effective in both solo lane and support roles. For the support role, the focus is on making E the primary ability to max, revolving around catching and controlling enemies. In solo lane, improving Q reliability and DPS will be crucial. These changes aim to balance Swain’s performance in both roles, making him a more flexible pick.

Addressing Health Stacking and Consistency

Many Swain players have expressed frustration with the inconsistency of health stacking. The rework will address this by making skill usage more reliable for gathering stacks, enhancing Swain’s overall gameplay consistency. This change will likely involve nerfing or removing some mechanics to balance the buffs, such as reducing E’s cooldown effect amidst ult.

Improved Gameplay Experience

To improve Swain’s gameplay experience, the developers are focusing on making his abilities more reliable and impactful without making him overly dependent on specific builds. This includes making his W ability, Vision of Empire, deal consistent damage to minions and improving E's reliability. The ult’s drain heal will also scale with bonus health, providing better sustain during fights.

Incremental Changes and Future Updates

While Riot recognizes the need for significant updates to Swain, they plan to implement changes incrementally over patches to minimize risk and cost. This approach ensures that Swain mains receive meaningful improvements without drastic overhauls that could disrupt the game’s balance.

Future updates may address larger issues as resources allow, aiming for a well-rounded and satisfying gameplay experience for Swain players.

Stay tuned for these exciting updates, expected to release soon this split.
