7: Graves and Twisted Fate

Graves and Twisted Fate being a couple was a surprise to many people when it was announced. Riot Games justified their romance by stating that not all relationships need overt romance or flirtation, which emphasizes their dynamic. 

Their intimacy comes from being work partners who place their lives in each other’s hands, forming a bond based on trust and shared purpose rather than traditional romantic gestures. Fans describe them as “work-wives,” focusing on partnership and mutual reliance in their dangerous endeavors.

6: Ashe and Tryndamere

Ashe and Tryndamere’s marriage started as a political alliance within the Freljord, uniting their tribes. While the relationship was founded out of necessity, they slowly developed genuine feelings for each other over the years.

Building trust and companionship through their marriage and shared goals in a land of politics and harsh climate created a real relationship between them. As these are the first champions confirmed to be in a relationship within the LoL universe, they’re a big part of the lore, evolving from a marriage of convenience into a bond of respect and love.

5: Senna and Lucian

Senna and Lucian’s love story was canon before Senna was a playable character. Lucian’s initial lore was centered around his hunt for Thresh, due to his capturing Senna within his lantern. It set their deep connection and Lucian’s devotion before players saw Senna freed and playable.

Both of them can play in the same lane, so couples can be together in-game and assist each other. Senna players can ensure that their ADC gets kills and survives, while Lucian players can capitalize on their couple’s set-ups and roots.

4: Diana and Leona

Diana and Leona were one of the biggest community ships for a long time, but 
Riot Games never explicitly revealed whether they were together or not. The Rise With Me finally confirmed their relationship after the two shared a romantic kiss.

Their relationship is one of the most complicated ones in League of Legends lore, since both are proud warriors and protectors of their respective tribes’ beliefs, but their love exists despite these barriers. 

3: Garen and Katarina

Garen and Katarina’s secret romance was confirmed as canon with the Legends of Runeterra TCG, which features storylines official to the Runeterra universe. They both come from the hostile nations of Demacia and Noxus, making an open relationship impossible, forcing them to meet secretly despite being from nations that oppose each other.

The game has voice lines where they both taunt each other, and other characters also chime in. For example, Lux says, “Kat and Garen sitting in a tree, and you better just be holding hands or I’m telling!” when she encounters Katarina for the first time in the match. There are also voice lines for when Katarina and Garen encounter and slay each other.

2: Vi and Caitlyn

Vi and Caitlyn are one of the most popular League of Legends couples, especially after Arcane. Their romance was hinted at throughout the show, becoming a couple by the end, solidifying their romantic connection.

In-game, they both have voice lines for whenever they help, encounter, or slay each other, emphasizing their connection. They also have an Easter egg: when they’re both against Jinx, a counter increases whenever they get a kill or assist on Jinx. Jinx has a similar counter that increases whenever she assists or kills Vi or Caitlyn.

1: Xayah and Rakan

Xayah and Rakan are the most well-known couple in League of Legends, with their relationship constantly mentioned in-game and being embedded directly into their gameplay mechanics. They buff each other when they’re on the same team, and their in-game interactions reinforce their bond. 

They have a playful dynamic. Rakan constantly proposes marriage, and Xayah always asks him to ask again tomorrow, not to refuse, but because she loves his daily declarations. Most couples play both characters in the bot lane, with Xayah as the ADC and Rakan as the support. These Ionian champions are the staple of romance in the game, and it's no surprise why.
