Valorant finally adding Ranked Rollback feature. Here's how it works

Valorant finally adding Ranked Rollback feature. Here's how it works

Valorant is easily one of the most popular FPS games around, and that’s largely thanks to how competitive it is. Players love getting matched up against others alongside their friends to conquer games and win matches to climb the ranks. After all, this is why competitive games like CS2 and League of Legends have such a large fanbase.

However, one major issue with Valorant is with cheaters. While Riot’s kernel-level anti-cheat called Riot Vanguard is able to identify and take care of most third-party software, some players are still able to get past its detection. This eventually ruins the game for multiple people, as using third-party software gives the cheaters an unfair advantage against those trying to play the game fairly.

Fortunately, Riot is adding ranked rollback to the game. While fans have been asking for this for a while, Riot confirmed its eventual addition to the game, and we’re here to go through everything players need to know about it. If you want to play with players who don’t need to cheat to climb the ranks, you can always hire a professional teammate from Eloking. What is Ranked Rollback in Valorant?

Riot Games adds a Ranked Rollback to Valorant, restoring the RR of people who have lost unfairly to cheaters. Competitive games like Valorant rely on skill-based matchmaking determined by various factors like RR, so cheaters using hacks to win matches and gain RR while making fair players lose them ruins the entire rank-climbing aspect of the game.

Whenever a cheater is detected in Valorant, the system will look at every match where the hacker played, including who they played against or with. When Riot bans a cheater, the Ranked Rollback system will give back to players who lost their RR if they were in the exact match to undo the unfair impact those people received.

Ranked Rollback ensures that people affected by cheaters don't develop long-term issues and lose a lot of RR throughout their time in ranked mode.

Why is Riot adding Ranked Rollback to Valorant?

Despite Riot's ability to tackle the cheating problem in Valorant thanks to the anti-cheat Vanguard and banning millions of hackers, the company had to act when affected players complained about their RR. Since many people talked about how frustrating it was to lose RR even though the cheaters got caught later on, Riot acknowledged the issue and started to work on a solution.

The Vanguard anti-cheat system has banned over 3.6 million accounts and is still banning cheaters in the game. Sometimes, Riot delays bans so that they don't accidentally give developers who make cheats feedback on what triggers Vanguard, but this means that many players lose and suffer during that period.

The Ranked Rollback feature is how Riot plans to address this issue, where if a hacker gets caught after the match ends, then innocent people who lost RR will get it back.

How does Ranked Rollback work in Valorant?

What happens with Ranked Rollback is that the system identifies matches where a known cheater was present, which causes players' RR to drop. Once the identified hacker gets banned, the system will restore the RR to players affected by the loss. This system ensures that people don't lose their rank for no reason. It's worth noting that this won't affect players when a cheater in their game is banned mid-match.

While Ranked Rollback will give back players the RR they lost unfairly, players have been wondering if the new system will also reduce the RR of people in a team with cheaters who won matches. Right now, Riot hasn't confirmed whether or not people who won unfairly will lose their RR since the company is focusing on players who lost their games.

What did players think about the inclusion of Ranked Rollback?

Most of the Valorant community reacted positively to the inclusion of Ranked Rollback, with many people praising Riot Games for trying to fix an issue that has plagued the game since its launch.

Although most players love the addition of the new system, some are skeptical about situations where players unfairly gain RR because the game matches them up with cheaters. The problem is that if the new system only focuses on people who lost through cheating, it may inflate the game's ranking system.

FAQs

Does Valorant have a lot of cheaters?

Not really. However, some servers definitely have more cheaters than others, whether this be thanks to the easy availability of cheating software or the fact that Riot is a little more lax when it comes to detecting cheaters on that server. Having ranked rollback ensures that when the cheater is actually detected after unfairly winning a match, the team that was actually playing fairly gets its RR back.

Do the cheater’s teammates get punished in any way?

No, and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. You have to remember that just like players don’t choose to get matched up against a cheater, many players also don’t choose to get matched with a cheater. Some cheating software is so low-key that it doesn’t make much of an impact in the overall game. Punishing players for playing the game just as they would have in any other match would be unfair, especially for those who carried the cheater.
