How is Deadlock similar to League of Legends?

How is Deadlock similar to League of Legends?

Deadlock is Valve’s newest creation. However, while it’s a third-person game, it also has various mechanics that make it a technical MOBA. Since Valve has been in competition with League of Legends through its resident MOBA Dota 2 for years now, fans wonder if Deadlock is any similar to Riot’s MOBA.

Today, we’re here to go through all the ways League of Legends and Deadlock are similar to each other. In addition to the similarities, we also want to highlight the differences players can find between the two MOBAs to ensure players can accurately decide if they wish to make the move to Valve’s new MOBA.

So, without further ado, here’s how similar Deadlock is to all our favorite MOBA, League of Legends. If you want to get better at League of Legends before Deadlock officially comes out you can always hire a professional-level booster from Eloking to bump your rank up. You can even use the code “BoostToday” for an excellent 20% discount.

What is Deadlock?

Deadlock is a 6v6 third-person hero shooter merged with various MOBA elements. Think of it as a mix between Overwatch, League of Legends, Dota 2, and Team Fortress 2. Although Valve hasn't officially mentioned Deadlock, it's the one developing the game, as seen by the logos that pop up when booting the game and that the executable file is digitally signed by Valve Corp.

Interested players can’t play Deadlock by downloading the game or signing up for a test and can only join other users if they get an invite from someone who’s played the game. These limitations mean it’s difficult for most ordinary people to get into the playtest and try the game themselves.

How similar are Deadlock and League of Legends?

Intense battle scene with various champions from League of Legends

For starters, they both are MOBAs. Multiple players in a team tackle different lanes and destroy objectives so they can make it to the opponent's spawn and destroy it. Each objective fights back and damages the player, just like League of Legends. People can choose between various characters.

Each character has different abilities, strengths, and weaknesses, so building the right team composition is essential. Deadlock also includes the store mechanic from League of Legends, where people can buy items to create builds and strengthen their character.

Each lane has a bunch of friendly and enemy NPCs or creeps that people can kill to obtain a specific currency, which they can use to purchase items in the shop. Each character has abilities that get stronger by leveling up as the match progresses, making the end game more dangerous compared to the early phases of the match. Players can also go between lanes and be junglers, where they can find tougher NPCs to kill that drop even more souls that they can use for upgrades.

The art style of both games is similar, as both focus more on cartoony looks rather than realism.

What are the differences between Deadlock and League of Legends?

Dynamic illustration of fantasy video game characters in action

While the way to win and rules are similar to League of Legends, the core gameplay couldn’t be more different between both. For starters, Deadlock is a third-person shooter, so people must aim and shoot to damage opponents, with a preference for headshots. Players can move around in different ways. Each player can slide, dash, air dash, dash jump, double jump, and climb up ledges to traverse the map.

While League of Legends players can teleport between places, those playing Deadlock must use the zipline present on every lane they can use to move back and forth across the map. These ziplines are only available for a person if their team controls that area of a lane. Also, Deadlock has four lanes instead of 3, so each side has a harder time controlling chunks of the map. Because the game has an extra lane, each team has one more player, so the matches are six versus six instead of five versus five.
