How to test skins in Marvel Rivals

Skins play a crucial role in every free-to-play game, and Marvel Rivals is no exception. From skins based on fan-favorite movies to original ones that look similar to certain comic runs, there are multiple skins that players have splurged on to acquire.
However, it makes sense that some players will want to see the skin in action before they actually buy it. For those players, there are a handful of ways to test skins in Marvel Rivals, which include using the in-game store preview, the cosmetic menu, and some smart workarounds.
Here’s how you can test skins in Marvel Rivals to see if they’re worth digging into your savings for.
In-Game Store preview
In Marvel Rivals, checking out skins before buying is fairly limited, as the game does not yet offer a true “try-on” or model viewer system for unowned cosmetics. The main way to preview a skin is in the in-game Store. From the main menu, navigating into the Store presents you with a selection of tabs, usually divided into Featured bundles and individual Costumes.
The Featured section often highlights special bundles like limited-time crossover outfits, while the Costumes tab is where you’ll find single-character skins. Each entry in the store shows you the skin’s name, price, and a small preview image. Clicking on a skin or bundle opens a more detailed panel that includes a larger static image of the hero in the selected costume. When a bundle includes extras like MVP poses, emotes, or nameplates, those items will also be listed.
The catch, however, is that the preview is not interactive. You can’t rotate the character model, zoom in for details, or view animations. Essentially, you’re limited to the screenshots and promotional artwork chosen by the developers. This can feel incomplete for players who want to see how a skin looks in motion, but it’s currently the only direct way to preview unowned skins in the game.
Hero profile / Cosmetics menu
Things open up a little more once you’ve actually purchased a skin. Owned cosmetics can be viewed and managed in the Hero Profile or Cosmetics menu. From the Heroes screen, selecting your character and navigating to their Cosmetics or Appearance tab will display all the skins you own for that hero.
Clicking on one of these options immediately updates the character model to show it, allowing you to see the outfit in 3D. Depending on how the menus have been updated, some players report being able to rotate the model or view a few animations, giving a more dynamic look at the outfit. This is especially useful for cosmetics with intricate details that might not show properly in a flat image. Chromas and recolors also appear in this menu, and once unlocked, they can be previewed and applied here as well.
The downside, however, is that this process only works for cosmetics you’ve already bought. The Cosmetics menu won’t help you choose if you’re still undecided about spending on a skin. It simply doesn’t display unowned skins in a previewable way.

Practice range and Training mode
Many players wonder if the Practice Range or Training modes offer a workaround for trying on skins before purchase. Unfortunately, these modes always default to the standard hero models. There’s no toggle, slot, or menu option for previewing skins during practice sessions.
Several community discussions, including threads on forums and Steam, confirm that this has been the case since the closed beta and remains unchanged in the current release. When one player asked if skins could be tested in practice mode, the blunt answer from others was that “there’s nothing to try”. The practice range does not support alternate costumes.
Limitations and workarounds
Because of the built-in limitations, community-driver resources have become the best way to “preview” skins in action. YouTube channels and streamers frequently showcase newly released outfits. They often play full matches while wearing them, so potential buyers can see how they look from different angles and in various environments.
Fan-run websites and forums also compile galleries of skins, sometimes even comparing base models against their alternate costumes. For players unsure about purchasing a skin after only seeing its store image can turn to gameplay clips as a useful alternative. Browsing one of these galleries is also a reliable way to see the design properly. Players often recommend this approach, suggesting that others search for skins on YouTube before committing to a purchase.
