League of Legends is refreshing one of its most beloved game modes, ARAM, with major updates landing on June 25. Two new maps are joining the rotation, alongside quality-of-life improvements aimed at spicing up champion select and in-game strategy.
Players will now be randomly placed on one of three ARAM maps: the original Howling Abyss, the long-awaited return of Butcher’s Bridge, and Koeshin’s Crossing, a Spirit Blossom-themed map with unique layout and portal mechanics.
Let’s take a closer look at what each of these new battlegrounds brings to the table.
Butcher’s Bridge Returns
Fans have long asked for the return of Butcher’s Bridge[1], and Riot is delivering, just with some added features. The map keeps its Bilgewater aesthetic but now comes equipped with interactive elements like catapults near both spawn areas. These can launch players across nearly half the map like URF[2], offering new mobility options and chaotic playmaking potential.
In the middle of the lane, a new plant has been added. It is similar to the Arena but less potent as it only reduces cooldowns and provides shields with no healing. Overall, the reworked Butcher’s Bridge adds layers to the familiar ARAM brawls and opens up surprising new moments.
Koeshin’s Crossing
The second map, Koeshin’s Crossing, debuts with an ethereal Spirit Blossom look and several unique features. Visually distinct and tranquil, the map incorporates hexgates leading toward the center lane and includes paired portals on each side of the battlefield. These let players teleport from one side to the other, creating potential for surprise flanks and flashy escapes.
Another standout feature of Koeshin’s Crossing is what happens when you die. Instead of the usual gray screen, your view becomes purple-toned, and the sounds are toned down. It’s a subtle but welcome shift that makes downtime feel less jarring, offering a more immersive experience even while waiting to respawn.

Changes to Champion Select
Alongside the map updates, champion select is getting reworked for ARAM. Riot is introducing champion cards, a new system that gives you two choices at the start of the selection phase. You pick one to play, and the other goes to a shared bench, making it available for teammates to grab.
This system expands champion variety without relying solely on rerolls or trading, giving players more flexibility without needing coordination in voice chat. Sometimes, you’ll even get free cards to increase your pool further.
With the addition of two diverse maps and smarter champion select mechanics, Riot is clearly investing in ARAM as more than just a side mode. These changes aim to make each match feel distinct, dynamic, and more strategic, without losing the chaotic fun that makes ARAM a fan favorite.
