Deadlock is shaping up to be one of the few competitors for MOBAs like League of Legends. Created by Valve, but being a third-person shooter instead of the usual top-down MOBA, Deadlock’s team can experiment more with their characters to ensure the game stands out more.
Case in point, Victor is one of the newer characters in Deadlock who utilizes unique abilities that deal damage to himself to make himself stronger. This high-risk and high-reward playing style requires players to have a good understanding of the character’s abilities to ensure they don’t end up feeding the enemy.
So, if Victor’s abilities in Deadlock interest you but you don’t know how to properly use them, keep reading because we have you covered.
What abilities does Victor have in Deadlock?
Victor is a drain tank who uses his health as a resource for his abilities, making him a powerful frontliner who thrives in combat.
Pain battery
Victor’s first ability, Pain Battery, is a passive that charges up whenever he takes damage from any source. Once it’s charged, activating it causes Victor to lash out with a burst of electricity, dealing 100 spirit damage to every enemy in a 20-meter radius in front of him. This ability has a short 2-second cooldown.
Its upgrades enhance its usefulness. For 1 AP, the damage is increased by 40. For 2 AP, the lightning applies a 40% slow to enemies for 2 seconds. The final 5 AP upgrade causes Victor to heal for 20% of his missing health after hitting an enemy hero, working well with his high-risk playstyle. Late-game Victor players can use the ability to chase escaping enemies and keep himself alive throughout fights.
Jumpstart
Victor deals spirit damage to himself, costing 15% of his current health, in exchange for a powerful buff. When he activates the buff, he gets 100 health regeneration and a +4m/s move speed boost, both decaying over 4 seconds. Jumpstart has a 22-second cooldown and starts with one charge.
Its upgrades add an extra +1.5m/s to the move speed boost for 1AP. For 2 AP, it provides an extra +50 total health regeneration. The powerful 5 AP upgrade reduces its cooldown by 4 seconds and allows players to cleanse non-ultimate debuffs when cast. This ability gives Victor sustainability and potential, especially when he’s low on health.
Aura of suffering
Aura of suffering is Victor’s main ability. It’s a toggleable damage aura with a 9-meter radius that deals spirit damage over time to Victor and enemies around him. The damage starts with 15 DPS and increases the longer the ability is active, up to a maximum of 75 DPS. Victor always takes 100% of the self-damage dealt.
While active, the tier 1 upgrade applies a 30% slow to every affected enemy. For 2 AP, the aura’s damage is increased by adding +10 to the minimum DPS and +50 to the maximum DPS. The 5 AP upgrade makes enemies inside the aura take +13% increased damage from every source. This ability lets Victor consistently proc items and debuff enemies during fights.
Shocking reanimation
Victor’s ultimate is a powerful passive that activates automatically when his health is reduced to zero. When Victor dies, he channels for 3 seconds, rapidly regenerating health until he reaches 60% of his maximum health. Once his health is full, he explodes before returning to life and deals 200 spirit damage plus a 1-second stun to every enemy within a 12-meter radius. The ultimate has a 190-second cooldown.
Its upgrades start with granting Victor 25% increased fire rate and 10 spirit damage per bullet after revival for 1AP. The 2 AP upgrade increases his rebirth health by 40%. The final 5 AP upgrade adds 200 more damage and increases the explosion’s radius by 3 meters. The ability is the payoff to a Victor dive, forcing the enemy to constantly deal with him.
How to play Victor in Deadlock?
Victor is relatively weak during the laning phase and works as an enabler for a stronger early-game partner. Players should focus on denying the enemy farm while securing their own. Most Victor builds prioritize sustainability. Extra regen gives him health. Rebuttal is excellent if the player is confident with parries, considering Victor must always play near opponents. If not, rushing spirit lifesteal is a good option, so aura of suffering becomes an excellent source of sustain and pressure.
Victor becomes a frontliner and disruptor when the laning phase ends. Players must lock down the most dangerous enemy and rely on their ultimate or survivability to endure burst damage. Good items include Torment Pulse for increased damage, Cold Front or Mystic Slow to stop escapes, and obtaining a Lightning Scroll or crowd control. Players can extend aura of suffering’s 9-meter range with greater expansion. Players must finish with boundless spirit and spirit burn to deal late-game damage and a defensive leech or infuser, ensuring they stay the team’s tank.
