Competitive games like Valorant and Overwatch 2 that have multiple characters players can pick from are always getting patches. These patches typically see some characters either get buffed or nerfed to allow fairness in the game. However, some patches also accidentally overdo it, which is the case with Iso in Valorant.
Iso received a buff following patch 8.11. While he was fairly weak before, this buff allowed him to reset his shield every time he got two kills in the round, allowing players to regenerate his shield fairly quickly. As one can imagine, this meant weapons like the Operator and shotguns were made effectively useless.
Fortunately, Iso is getting nerfed in an upcoming patch, and we’re here to tell you what you can expect from it. If you used to be an Iso main and have to find a new agent to master, we recommend you hire a professional coach from Eloking to quickly learn any agent you want. Why is Iso getting nerfed?
The Chinese agent used to be very weak in the game, and players barely used him until he got a buff in patch 8.11, the same update that introduced Abyss. The buff made Iso very strong by causing his Double Tap shield to reset after he got two kills in the round. By making his Double Tap shield regenerate very quickly, he became strong, especially against snipers and 1v1s, causing everyone to be frustrated by the character.
The 8.11 patch grew Iso’s pick rate and win rate and took the spot of other duelists in the game, like Raze.
penguinVALORANT, one of the game designers working on Valorant, shares that Iso will receive many nerfs on patch 9.00, which launches next week.
What changes will Iso receive?
The Double Tap ability will no longer reset after two kills
This is the biggest nerf to Iso’s moveset. Since Iso cannot reset his Double Tap shield after two resets, he is considerably weaker, and he can’t tank or take on enemies one by one consistently if he messes up a little bit, unlike before, where he could always get a shield by taking down opponents. The loss of his momentum is the biggest downfall for Iso mains, but it shouldn’t make him useless.
Double Tap will be shorter
Not only will Iso’s Double Tap shield lose its reset, but the time it will stay active will also become much shorter. His shield lasts 20 seconds, but after the patch goes live, it will only last 12 seconds. This heavy reduction will make it easier for opponents to wait out his ability so they can take on the Chinese agent head-on, and it also makes snipers more viable against him since Iso will lose his shield easily.
The Double Tap ability can only be used once per round
Unlike previously, where Iso could get his Double Tap shield multiple times per round, he will now be only able to use his shield once, meaning Iso mains need to be more mindful of when they should use it. The lack of multiple uses also stops Iso from taking on multiple enemies in a single round, so he’s easier to compete against.
What does the community think about Iso’s nerfs?
The Valorant community has become positive after finding out that Iso is getting nerfed in the upcoming patch, considering the character has reached such a state where it was almost impossible to not see him in ranked matches.
