Multiple hero shooters might be popping up recently thanks to the popularity and ever-expanding player base of Overwatch 2, but not all of them are good. Activision Blizzard has made multiple recent decisions that people might not agree with, prompting them to look for alternative games that are similar but different enough to keep things fresh and engaging.
Today, we’re here to go through five games that are like Overwatch 2. The similarity may be in the team composition and abilities, or the games may be borderline identical as is the case with Team Fortress 2. By explaining how every game compares to Overwatch 2, we hope to help players find adequate substitutes so they don’t have to keep playing the same game. We choose to leave out Deadlock from the list as it's still in its beta phase.
So, without further ado, here are five games that are like Overwatch 2 and how they compare to Blizzard’s hero shooter.
Gundam Evolution
Gundam Evolution is a free-to-play title by Bandai Namco Online. It's a team-based first-person shooter where players go up against each other in 6v6 PvP combat while piloting the iconic mobile suits from the Gundam series. The game’s got 3 main modes, each with a unique set of objectives: Point Capture, Domination, and Destruction.
What makes Gundam Evolution exciting is its fast-paced action. It has a unique Boost System which lets players quickly accelerate into action. There's a big roster of mobile suits, all with their unique abilities and weapons. This keeps the combat fresh and gives players tons of options to play around with. The game is also great for anyone already familiar with the anime and fans of the lore.
Gundam shares the team-based shooter mechanics and hero-based gameplay style with Overwatch 2, but the mobile suits add a completely different set of abilities and playstyles. If you like Overwatch 2, you’ll love the fast-paced action in Gundam Evolution, and the mech-based combat will keep you hooked.
Paladins
Paladins is a fantasy-themed shooter from Evil Mojo Games, published by Hi-Rez Studios. Paladins drops you into a colorful and magical world where every match feels like a unique adventure packed with dynamic team play. The game has a variety of 5v5 game modes, including Siege, Onslaught, and Team Deathmatch.
One of the standout features of Paladins is its deep and diverse customization system. The game has a card system in play that allows players to customize their champions’ abilities. You can add tweaks to suit your playstyle which is a nice change from the usual set-in-stone abilities. The game has a vibrant art style and a wide range of characters, the maps are beautifully designed, and the game has a rich lore to go along with it.
Paladins offers the same hero-based shooter experience, with team play and tactics at the forefront. However, it takes things further with its card system and the in-game item shop that provides tons of room for strategy and customization. Paladins is a must-play and brings a lot to the table with its unique mechanics.

Team Fortress 2
Team Fortress 2 (TF2) is a class-based FPS game from Valve, and even though it came out in 2007, it’s still massive. The game has 9 classes with unique weapons and abilities that give each player a distinct role to play, and once you master them, the gameplay becomes very satisfying. There’s a good mix of game modes like Capture the Flag, Control Point, Payload, and King of the Hill.
Team Fortress 2 has a unique art style, which explains why it's stuck around for so long. It's cartoony and exaggerated in a good way, and the game is full of humor. The unique and well-balanced classes keep things fun and engaging, the maps are iconic and each one offers unique and fun ways to play. It also has a very passionate community that keeps the game alive.
Compared to Overwatch 2, both games have a similar class system, but TF2 is a lot more fixed in what classes can do; while Overwatch 2 provides a bit more wiggle room with its hero abilities. Overwatch 2 players will enjoy the simpler vibe and a less serious tone, added to the game’s lighthearted and humorous vibe which is a breath of fresh air.
Splatoon 3
Splatoon 3 is a third-person shooter by Nintendo, and it's by far the most unique game on this list. In 4v4 multiplayer battles, you play as characters called inklings using ink-based weapons to cover as much ground as possible while taking out your opponents. The game is extremely satisfying, whether you’re swimming through your ink or painting the battlefield in your team’s colors. There’s a variety of modes like Turf War, Salmon Run, and even a single-player campaign mode.
Splatoon is unique and colorful as it focuses on ink as the core gameplay mechanic. You can use ink not just as an attack, but to move around quickly and sneak up behind enemies. The game has colorful art and quirky character designs that make it visually stand out, and the maps are packed with interesting layouts.
Splatoon takes a very different approach to team-based combat, as the gameplay is mainly about territory control and the use of ink. While Overwatch 2 also requires teamwork and strategy, Splatoon 3 is a lot more casual in its tone and vibe. Here, you’ll still find the fast-paced action similar to Overwatch 2 while also getting to experience something completely different.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
Rainbow Six Siege (R6S) from Ubisoft brings a unique gameplay style of 5v5 attack vs defense. You can choose from a roster of operators that are equipped with their own set of gadgets and abilities. R6S goes all in on strategy and teamwork and is filled with heart-pounding moments where a single move can turn the tide of the battle. The game has relatively traditional mechanics like breaching walls, setting traps, and outsmarting the enemy, but it executes it in a way that always keeps you on your toes.
Siege shines thanks to its focus on realism and impactful decision-making. The maps have destructible environments that force players to get creative, making each match feel different. Each operator has their backstory and arsenal of gadgets, and the maps are carefully designed to make players adjust their tactics on the fly. The mix of realism and intense action keeps people coming back to the game.
Both Overwatch 2 and R6S rely on teamwork and smart use of abilities, but R6S leans a lot more into planning and execution, with higher stakes and a much slower pace. Overwatch 2 players will recognize the operator system, but the realistic gameplay and destructible environments add more thrill. If you enjoy strategic shooter elements, R6S will be a solid experience. Plus, as long as Overwatch 2 doesn't return to the 6v6 formula, the two games will continue to have an identical team composition.
