NetEase giving players 200 Units after Marvel Rivals server outage

Marvel Rivals is one of the more consumer-friendly games around, especially considering all the weird decisions Riot Games has taken recently with League of Legends. However, even consumer-friendly gaming companies sometimes mess up, as was the case with the server outage Marvel Rivals had on February 24, 2025.

Fortunately, the outage was quickly dealt with, but it wasn’t before some players were rightfully annoyed. After all, the day was the start of the week, and many players were looking forward to playing Marvel Rivals. In an unexpected surprise, NetEase decided to give some players Units to make up for the outage.

Compensation for unexpected Marvel Rivals downtime

NetEase Games has announced ^[1] that all Marvel Rivals players will get 200 Units as compensation for an unexpected server outage on February 24. The popular hero shooter, which launched in late 2024 and has over 40 million players, experienced downtime, leaving numerous fans frustrated. 

Developers acknowledged the issue on the game’s official Discord channel but did not provide an estimated restoration time. The servers were down for several hours, and NetEase quickly addressed player concerns by offering them in-game currency.

How to claim the the free Units in Marvel Rivals?

Players who want to claim the 200 Units must log in to Marvel Rivals before March 12 and check their in-game mail. Units are one of the game’s three currencies that players can use to purchase cosmetics like skins, emotes, sprays, and bundles. Players are happy with this compensation, with many praising NetEase for its responsiveness. Some players suggest that other companies should “take notes” from this approach to customer service.

Marvel Rivals’ currency system

Marvel Rivals has three unique currencies: Chrono Tokens, Units, and Lattice. Players get Chrono tokens by completing challenges and can use them to advance the battle pass. Users can earn Units through challenges, allowing them to buy cosmetics. Lattice is the premium currency players can purchase with real money or obtain through the battle pass. 

NetEase recently introduced a new feature, allowing players to convert excess Chrono Tokens into Units to provide an extra way to earn the currency.

The community is optimistic about Marvel Rivals’ future despite the server outage. The recent mid-season patch added new heroes and the Midnight Features 2 questline, which players have loved.
