Blizzard to remove PvE Overwatch 2 game mode after only four months

Overwatch 2 has gone through a lot to get to where it is today, no one can refute that. From a game that was bashed for being a clone of its prequel to being the game that promised PvE content only to go back on the statement, many former Overwatch players despise the game now. Well, they might get another reason now.
After only four months after its release, an Overwatch 2 game mode is getting axed. Blizzard blames a lack of player interest for the reason, but it raises the question of whether the company will ever implement the PvE content so many players have been hoping for since the game’s release.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Overwatch 2 game mode you won’t be able to play after next season.
Hero Mastery Gauntlet to be removed from Overwatch 2
Hero Mastery Gauntlet, not to be confused with a game mode of a similar name, Hero Mastery Solo courses, is one of the few PvE game modes Blizzard added to Overwatch 2. In it, instead of the typical five vs five format, a group of three players controls heroes to drive back armies of robots.
The twist is that the players are to use a combination of turrets and exploding barrels to deal the damage they need. This makes for a unique and interesting game mode where players must work together and communicate to succeed.
However, it seems as though the game mode will be going away permanently in just a bit. According to Blizzard, "Hero Mastery Gauntlet was intended to bring the high score-chasing excitement of Hero Mastery missions into a multiplayer format. Unfortunately, it hasn’t resonated with players in the ways that we hoped."
For this reason, Hero Mastery Gauntlet will be removed in the next season. We believe the biggest reason this specific game mode didn’t catch on with fans is that it doesn’t have anything to do with the story. All players do is try to get a good high score after which the game ends and players must repeat the cycle. There’s no rank, no lore, and no fighting actual humans.
Although the promise of making Overwatch 2 a more PvE-centered game was a welcome one, fans probably assumed that meant learning more about their favorite heroes and the Overwatch 2 world. Mindlessly defeating bots for a higher score than last time probably gets boring rather quickly.

FAQs
Will Overwatch 2 get more PvE modes?
It’s unknown if Blizzard will add more PvE game modes in Overwatch 2. While the company promised to add more story elements in the game to help players learn more about the heroes they love, it doesn’t seem like the company is following up on the promise.
Naturally, if Overwatch 2 introduces game modes that let players learn more about the overall Overwatch story and everything then they’ll likely see success. However, it remains to be seen if this will happen in the near future.
