Riot Games going after toxic Valorant players

Riot Games going after toxic Valorant players

Toxicity is a major issue in FPS games like Valorant, but it’s difficult for developers to do anything about it thanks to the complex nature of the issue. Naturally, that doesn’t mean the developers shouldn’t do anything at all, and Riot Games is making strides to change some things in Valorant.

Today, we’re here to go through everything you need to know about Valorant and its upcoming change to combat toxicity. This includes why Riot Games is suddenly going after toxic players and what the developer is going to do to combat this issue.

So, without further ado, here’s everything Valorant is doing to combat toxic players. If you want to play with some non-toxic players you can always play with some professional-level player from Eloking. Just don’t forget to use the code “BoostToday” so you get a 20% discount too.

Why is Riot Games suddenly going after toxic players?

Riot has been battling against toxic players in games like Valorant and League of Legends, but a recent incident caused them to address toxicity in their titles. The incident in question was when a player was in a Valorant match, and someone in her team threatened to rape her. Anna Donlon, Valorant’s Studio head, said that addressing harmful behavior like that is a priority for Riot, and it’s one of the most challenging issues to face.

Toxicity isn’t to be confused with bantering, which won’t be addressed according to Donlon. They don’t want to over-address the situation and ruin communication, but severe cases like the incident above are being taken seriously so that it doesn’t happen anymore.

Dolon revealed that Valorant players who engage in toxic behavior and get penalized for it usually don’t repeat that mistake, although there are exceptions. These new upcoming measures are for those constantly being disruptive and ruining the experience for other players.

What will Riot Games do to address toxicity in Valorant?

Aside from the normal penalties already in the game, Riot will introduce hardware bans to Valorant. This means that if a player is constantly engaging in disruptive or abusive behavior, their whole system will get banned, so they won’t be able to play even if they make a new account on it. Hardware bans will be used for the worst offenders to discourage them from coming back to the game.

In addition to hardware bans, Riot now promises to manually review more reported behaviors because it expects more reports in the upcoming month. Alongside manual reviews, It will increase the use of Voice Evaluation systems, which gather information and checks whether or not someone is being toxic through in-game voice communication.

The final thing Riot will do is go and review the top suspected offenders from the previous act and then give penalties accordingly. This action is being done so that those who’ve slipped through the cracks aren’t safe and that they get penalized, ensuring that past toxic behavior also gets punished.

In her message, Dolon talked to the toxic players directly and said that they should urgently leave the game if they can’t play without being abusive. She restated Riot’s commitment to combating toxicity and reassured that Valorant is a welcoming and enjoyable experience for everyone and that the company will not settle for less.
