AI has taken over many jobs and jobbies that previously belonged solely to humans. However, gaming is something that most assumed would always stay on humanity’s side. That seems not to be the case, according to Elon Musk.
The richest man in the world challenged T1, stating that his AI Grok 5 would be able to beat the team that most consider to be the best in the business. The challenge has been accepted by the team, raising the question of how things will proceed from here.
What are the rules in the match between Elon Musk’s AI and T1?
Elon Musk has challenged the best League of Legends team, T1, to face his Grok 5 AI in 2026. The Tesla CEO issued the challenge in a viral tweet on November 25th [1], saying, “Let’s see if @Grok5 can beat the best human team @LeagueOfLegends in 2026.” The post quickly got millions of views.
Musk shared strict, human-like constraints for Grok 5. It would only be allowed to see the game through a camera pointed at the monitor to replicate human vision. It wouldn’t have access to the game’s code or internal data feeds. To ensure a fair test of gaming intelligence rather than raw processing power, the AI’s reaction times and click speeds would be capped at human levels. Musk claimed that Grok 5 is designed to play “any game just by reading the instructions and experimenting.”

What was T1’s response to Elon Musk?
Although Musk didn’t mention a specific opponent, fans were quick to suggest that the South Korean team and reigning World Champions, who just secured their third consecutive title, T1, is the best candidate for the challenge. The organization accepted the challenge, replying to Musk, saying, “We are ready, are you?” They also attached a GIF of their legendary mid-laner, Faker.
The stakes for this potential match are high. If Grok 5 wins under these constraints, it would mark a big milestone for AI in competitive gaming, unlike previous AI victories that had advantages such as superhuman reaction speeds. The timing adds more interest, as T1 will look different in 2026 after losing star ADC Gumayusi, but they will still be led by Faker, who just claimed his sixth World Championship.
The challenge started debates across the gaming community, highlighting how far AI has advanced while discussing the complexity of professional League of Legends. Players need skills like split-second decisions, team coordination, meta knowledge, and adaptability to compete, and it’s taken a player like Faker years to master.
Industry veterans are skeptical about Grok’s chances. Former LCS pro Voyboy stated, “This is definitely not possible by 2026. League has far too many variables and team coordination required to win at the highest level.” Riot Games co-founder Marc Merrill showcased interest, responding “let’s discuss” to Musk’s proposal. The 2026 timeline gives both teams preparation time, with T1 needing to strategize against an opponent that doesn’t tilt or get tired. If this match happens, it will be one of the most-watched League of Legends games ever.
