FAQs
Do Dota 2 tournaments have cash prizes?
They do, yes. As a matter of fact, some large-scale Dota 2 tournaments have prize pools that delve in the 7-figure range. It can’t be understated just how popular and influential Dota 2 is, something that’s largely thanks to the free-to-play and competitive nature of the game. With Valve’s influence it’s only natural that the company would ensure the large-scale tournaments would be worth watching and playing, and having a large cash pool is the best way to do that.
Are Dota 2 tournaments more popular than League of Legends tournaments?
It’s a little hard to answer this question. While both Dota 2 and League of Legends are MOBAs, both games have a pretty different audience. Therefore, Valve and Riot Games’ marketing methods are also vastly different.
For example, Dota 2’s competitions rely only on the skill of players. The best of the best are put against each other in a tournament to decide who is the most deserving of the final cash prize. On the other hand, while League of Legends’s tournaments are also extremely competitive, the large ones also have things like exclusive skins, merchandise, songs, and content creators marketing the tournaments to ensure they’re visual spectacles.
