Everything to know about Overwatch 2’s competitive drive meter

Everything to know about Overwatch 2’s competitive drive meter

Overwatch 2 has really turned things around compared to how things were when the game initially came out. While the first Overwatch was a massive success and even went on to win the Game of the Year award for 2016, the same couldn’t be said for Overwatch 2. The sequel was universally hated and considered an unnecessary sequel. Fortunately, much of that has changed since.

Activision Blizzard has added various updates and additions to Overwatch 2 to ensure the game remains relevant. In addition to new heroes being free, the developer also adds updates like the brand-new drive meter that rewards players for playing well. Today, we’ll be going through everything you need to know about the Overwatch 2 Competitive Drive, including what it is, and how players can earn points in it. Naturally, we’ll also go through all of the possible rewards to ensure players know whether it’s worth the effort.

So, without any more delay, here’s everything to know about Overwatch 2’s competitive drive meter. If you want to quickly max out the meter you can always buy an Overwatch 2 boost. Our professional boosters can help you win games while also increasing the Competitive Drive bar. Just don’t forget to use the code “BoostToday” so you get a 20% discount in the process.

What is Competitive Drive in Overwatch 2?

With Season 12 of Overwatch 2 ending soon, Blizzard is introducing a new event to the game called Competitive Drive to keep people interested. This new limited-time event will take place on the final weekend of the in-game season to give players opportunities to receive more Competitive Points and rewards before the season ends. The first Competitive Drive will begin on October 4, 2024, 8 AM PT, and end on October 6, 2024, 8 AM PT.

Competitive Drives are tied to the Competitive modes of Overwatch 2, where players earn various things by competing in matches in those ranked modes. Competitive Drive has a progress bar that players can fill by winning ranked matches and earning a Drive Score. That progress bar is called the Drive Meter. Competitive Drives encourage players to participate more in the competitive game modes before the season ends to get exclusive items such as Competitive Points and signatures.

Starting from Season 12, Competitive Drives will last for 3 Seasons.

How to Earn Points in Competitive Drive

The Drive Meter tracks how a player is performing through the Competitive Drive. Points are added to the Drive Meter whenever a person wins a match. Certain parts of the meter have checkpoints that drop rewards to the player.

The number of Drive Points a player gets depends on how many matches they win in the Competitive Play Role Queue. Whenever someone wins during the Competitive Drive, they'll get a Drive Score equal to about ten times the Skill Rank percentage they got from that match. For example, if a person wins and gets 21% in their Skill Rank progress, they'll obtain 210 Drive Points.

It's worth noting that players won't only gain points. If they lose a match, then their Drive Score will reduce. Fortunately, the number of points lost in a defeat is less than the points awarded for a victory. A person losing a match could mean a reduction of about five times the Skill Rank % they lost, meaning if someone lost 15%, they'll lose 75 points.

The most important thing to fill the gauge is using checkpoints because it prevents progress from falling back and drops rewards even if a person starts losing multiple times afterward. Once someone hits a checkpoint, it becomes a milestone, and they cannot go under that anymore. These checkpoints allow players to fill up the gauge.

After three Seasons pass, every player's progress will reset, so they'll have to compete for new Signatures moving forward.

Every Overwatch 2 competitive drive meter reward

By participating in Competitive Drivers, players can earn Drive Points and reach milestones that drop new rewards. These rewards include Competitive Points, an in-game currency that players can use to purchase golden weapon skins, and an exclusive type of cosmetic called Signatures.

What are Signatures?

Signatures are unique rewards that players can receive in Competitive Drive. They are backings for a player's BattleTag, which gives people a special appearance whenever someone else looks at their profile, like Name Cards, Hero Portraits, and Play of the Game highlight intros. Unlike other types of cosmetics in Overwatch 2, Signatures are exclusive to Competitive Drive and can only be obtained by reaching specific checkpoints.

As players go through different tiers, they can upgrade their Signature. By winning matching and earning Drive Points, fans can unlock higher tiers of Signatures such as the Advanced Signature or the Elite Signature. Besides the tier of a Signature, every checkpoint increases how much more prestigious their Signature becomes, where each one can reflect the number of Drives the player has completed throughout different seasons.

When the Competitive Drive ends, the players' Signatures will have their prestige written with a Roman numeral to showcase how many Drives they completed during that time.

FAQs

Can you get skins for participating in the Overwatch 2 competitive drive meter?

Unfortunately, while participating in this limited-time event can help players acquire currency they can use to buy golden skins for their favorite character’s weapons, players can’t unlock any Hero skin through this. Acquiring skins in Overwatch 2 isn’t as easy as doing so in the first Overwatch thanks to the removal of the lootbox system, something that happened thanks to the game’s free-to-play nature.
