Every support hero in Overwatch 2 (ranked)

Every support hero in Overwatch 2 (ranked)

Overwatch 2 has a wide collection of heroes players can play as. While some of them are able to deal massive damage to enemies like Bastion or even Reaper when he’s able to get up close and personal, some heroes are instead meant to support their teammates. These heroes are fittingly called support heroes.

With so many support heroes to choose from, some players may find themselves overwhelmed. Fortunately, we’re here to fix that with our ranking of every single support hero in Overwatch 2. While this ranking is based on our own opinion, we’ve been sure to add proper reasonings and explanations for every placement.

So, if you’re someone who wants to main the support role to carry your DPS duo to victory but don’t know which one to choose, then don’t worry. We got you. If you want to learn any of the support heroes on this list, you can always hire a professional booster from Eloking to show you the ropes. The most important suggestion we can give is not to forget to use the code “BoostToday” when you’re finalizing your order so you can get a 20% discount.

Baptiste

Animated character in futuristic armor celebrating in a city with colorful confetti

Baptiste earns the top spot on this list thanks to his versatile and impactful kit. His Bionic Launcher gives solid damage and healing, and his healing grenades are clutch during clustered fights. His abilities can stabilize the team in chaotic moments.

His Amplification Matrix enables string team pushes and his Exo-Boots add extra mobility. Baptiste requires mechanical skills if you want to use him to the fullest, and you’ll need to balance his precise damage and projectile healing for the best rewards.

Moira

Moira takes the second spot for being a very consistent healer. Her Biotic Grasp keeps her team going in long fights and makes her self-sufficient, while her Biotic Orbs can be useful for long-range targets.

Moira’s Fade gives her additional mobility, while her ultimate, Coalescence, combines healing and damage to change the game. Her straightforward and reliable playstyle makes her a top-tier support in casual games.

Ana

Female sci-fi character with sniper rifle in a desert setting

Taking the third spot is Ana, who has a top-tier status thanks to her powerful healing and damage. Her sniper rifle offers range, while her Biotic Grenade is very effective against tanks. Her Sleep Dart offers crowd control and helps shake off ultimates.

Her Nano Boost ultimate allows her team to carry out deadly combos through survivability. Ana requires very precise positioning and accuracy and is perfect for skilled players, but she shouldn't be used with dive compositions.

Kiriko

Kiriko ranks fourth thanks to her well-balanced kit. Her Ofuda gives reliable healing for teammates, useful in hectic fights. Swift Step adds mobility allowing for timely healing or quick escapes. Also, her kunai is deadly if you land headshots.

Her protection Suzu removes debuffs and gives brief invulnerability in key moments. Her ultimate, Kitsune Rush, boosts her speed and damage and reduces cooldowns. She a strong pick if you are into an aggressive playstyle.

Lucio

Young female video game character in futuristic armor with glowing elements

Lucio ranks fifth in the support tier list thanks to his unique abilities, which do require a bit of team coordination. His speed boost helps his team reposition quickly, perfect for aggressive plays, while his sound barrier is a massive shield that blocks ultimates.

His abilities require precise timing and positioning to be effective to the max, and in higher ranks, Lucio shines thanks to his damage output, wall ride, and Boop, which disrupts enemies. Despite slower healing, recent buffs and mobility keep him effective.

Juno

Futuristic female video game character with hovering drones

At six is Juno, who’s quite effective if you're not looking to get into 1v1 duels. Her burst pistol is accurate and dishes reasonable damage to support her team, while her Jetpack, lock-on rockets, and Speed Ring make her useful in chaotic fights.

Her Orbital Ray is a game changer during pushes providing both healing and damage. Balance changes in Season 13 nerfed her a bit, but her ability to adapt to both main support and flex roles still makes her a reasonable pick.

Zenyatta

Zenyatta ranks 7th, with the best from his kit being his Orb of Discord which adds a big damage boost against tanks, while his healing orb has steady healing. Transcendence makes him invulnerable and heals his team effectively.

However, his fragility and lack of mobility can leave him vulnerable in aggressive plays, and his healing output rate is slower than other supports. If it comes down to using him, go for poke-heavy team compositions and avoid direct brawls.

Mercy

Female warrior in futuristic armor wielding a large gun

Mercy excels at healing and utility but struggles big time in the current meta. Her Healing Beam gives continuous healing while Damage Boost amps up her teammates’ damage. Her Resurrection can turn the tide by bringing back key teammates.

That being said, her lack of damage output and defensive weaknesses make her very vulnerable in aggressive or fast-paced compositions. Despite high mobility, she’s still an easy target, and overall, is not an optimal pick in the current meta.

Brigitte

Female warrior in futuristic armor posing

Brigitte ranks ninth as she has some decent effectiveness as a hybrid support with tank-like abilities. Her kit is fairly acceptable as a support, with Inspire providing area healing, Repair Packs for targeted healing, and some decent crowd control.

Her downside, though, lies in how much she can struggle against poke compositions and maps that are spread out. She’s best when surrounded by her team, but her kit being melee-based pretty much lowers her effectiveness in most matches.

Lifeweaver

Fantasy male character holding a glowing magical crystal in a futuristic laboratory

Lifeweaver ranks lower, and although his kit is versatile, it's a bit underwhelming. His Life Grip saves teammates from danger, and Tree of Life is useful in clutch moments. However, his healing output is significantly weaker than other supports.

Despite some buffs, he still struggles in the meta, as other supports like Kiriko or Baptiste excel where he lacks: being a slow healer and vulnerable to dive heroes. He’s more of a situational pick rather than a top-tier support.

Illari

Female warrior in futuristic armor wielding an energy weapon

Illari has decent healing and damage output but lacks the flexibility and utility that better supports have. Her Healing Pylon has good passive healing but can easily be destroyed if exposed. Her Solar Rifle may also leave her vulnerable.

Her Captive Sun can secure some decent kills with good team coordination, but her lack of utility beyond healing and damage makes her less versatile. She can work in niche scenarios, but in the broader meta, there are better supports.

FAQs

How many support heroes are in Overwatch 2?

There are a total of 11 support heroes in Overwatch 2, with the most recent one being Juno. However, the number will likely increase as Blizzard adds more playable characters to the game.

Is the support role important in Overwatch 2?

Absolutely. We would argue that the support role in Overwatch 2 is the most important role, as it ensures both other roles are able to do their jobs properly. After all, it’s a little hard to do anything if you’re dead, right? Without a support hero keeping other heroes alive, they’d end up dead and the match would end in a loss.
