All information regarding the Overwatch 2 and World of Warcraft collaboration
To commemorate World of Warcraft’s 20th anniversary, Blizzard is bringing the game’s universe to their other IP, Overwatch 2. The new collaboration will introduce new skins to the game alongside new challenges, player icons, and challenges.
When is the collaboration event starting?
The Overwatch 2 and World of Warcraft collaboration starts on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Like other events, this one will end on Monday, September 30, 2024. This gives players around two weeks to complete all the objectives and enjoy everything there is to enjoy with the collaboration.
Naturally, it’s understandable why Overwatch 2 is collaborating with World of Warcraft. Seeing as how both games are owned by Blizzard, there’s no extra expense involved in purchasing the marketing rights. Collaborating with an IP owned by a different company requires the two companies to sign an agreement, and this usually consists of the party who initiated the collaboration paying a fee or part of the overall income to the other party.
What items are coming to Overwatch 2 in the new collaboration?
Blizzard confirms some fresh skins players can get in the Overwatch 2 and World of Warcraft collaboration. Here’s a list of every new cosmetics:
Sylvanas Windrunner Widowmaker
Lich King Reinhardt
Thrall Zenyatta
Diamond Magni Torbjorn
These new skins will also change the play of the game animation animation. For example, if someone equips the Lich King Reinhardt skin and gets PotG, the background will be from the Lich King cinematic.
Other items like player icons, sprays, voice lines, and more have been added to the game since every event brings these cosmetics into the game. As for how players can receive them, they will most likely be purchasable through the store individually or through a bundle, or people will need to complete new challenges. Some of these new emotes are inspired by classic Warcraft NPCs, offering fans of the series a dose of nostalgia.
Two World of Warcraft-themed skins are available in the shop. Those two skins are Sin’dorei Symmetra and Blackhand Doomfist.
While the event runs, players can collect and earn up to ten free rewards. These rewards include charms, icons, sprays, and name cards. For those who don’t want to unlock these cosmetics gradually, the Mega Bundle offers every skin and cosmetic available from the Overwatch 2 and World of Warcraft collaboration.

Will there be a new Overwatch 2 limited time mode?
While it’s not part of the World of Warcraft collaboration, Blizzard has shared in its official blog that multiple limited-time modes will return from September 24, 2024, to commemorate Overwatch’s anniversary. Here’s a list of modes that will come to the game each week:
Week 1: Beast Hunt and Community Crafted modes.
Week 2: April Fools 2024 and Cosmic Crisis
Week 3: Mirrorwatch and Prop Hunt
The thing about hero shooters like Overwatch 2 is that the player base has multiple alternatives to choose from. Not keeping things fresh with new game modes will prompt players to gravitate towards different games, like Valorant and CS2. Bringing back fan-favorite modes and introducing new ones can keep the game relevant and retain the current player base while potentially attracting new players.
Which IP will Overwatch 2 collaborate with next?
It’s unknown which IP Overwatch 2 will collaborate with next, but the fact of the matter is that Blizzard’s popular hero shooter doesn’t have any shortage of potential candidates. Thanks to Overwatch’s initial 2016 success, there’s no doubt that most IPs would be lining up to collaborate with the 2016 Game of the Year winner.
Additionally, while not nearly as much as before, Overwatch 2 is still a popular name with a dedicated fanbase eager to try out new things. Collaborating with Overwatch 2 means the other IP might get a chance to attract a percentage of Overwatch’s audience with attractive character skins and maybe even game modes.
On the other hand, Blizzard may initiate the collaboration. For example, when it comes to the Cowboy Bebop crossover Overwatch 2 had previously, it’s unlikely that the creator of the anime would have prompted the collaboration. On the contrary, Blizzard had the potential to gain a lot through a collaboration with the anime thanks to its success and widely differing audience compared to the other IPs Overwatch 2 usually collaborates with.
Finally, Blizzard might go the safe route and collaborate with another band. The game’s collaboration with Le Sserafim was one of the biggest in Overwatch history, mostly thanks to the attractive character skins and animated music videos. Even players who hadn’t ever played Overwatch were lining up to purchase their favorite skins. Having a similar collaboration can potentially boost Blizzard’s profits.
FAQs
Will Overwatch 2 collaborate with Le Sserafim again
It’s unknown if Overwatch 2 will collaborate with the popular K-pop band Le Sserafim again. As most fans likely know, the two brands have already collaborated twice and both collaborations were successful largely thanks to the attractive skins that were made available. A third collaboration would likely be a success if the skin designers came out with equally attractive skins to give players a reason to jump into the game again.
Is World of Warcraft still popular?
While World of Warcraft, better known as WoW, isn’t nearly as popular as it was back when other popular MMORPGs weren’t out, it still has a rather big player base. Blizzard ensures the game continues to get frequent updates to retain the current player base while also attracting new players to the game.
