Overwatch 2 isnât an easy game to improve in. Far from it, actually, as there are so many factors to consider when wanting to get better at it. Thereâs the FPS aspect of it that relies on your aim, movement, and reflexes. Additionally, there are things like hero abilities and teamwork that you need to work on as well.
We have several pro tips to improve in Overwatch 2. They include knowing what role, playstyle, and hero you want to play, as well as tips on how to improve your aim, your movement, and communication between teammates. Finally, we have some extra tips that are bound to help you improve drastically.
Below youâll find tips on how to improve in Overwatch 2 given by our very own Eloking Overwatch 2 professional players.
#1: Know How You Want to Play

The thing about Overwatch 2 is that itâs a game with several different potential playstyles. You could be an aggressive supporter, a passive tank, or anything else you could think of. However, itâs important that you determine how you want to play the game.
By this, we mean you should first determine what sort of playstyle you want. Do you want to stay back and damage the enemies? Maybe you want to get up close and personal to deal heavy damage. You might not want to deal damage at all and might want to just focus on healing your teammates or keeping them alive.
The quicker youâre able to determine how you want to play, the quicker youâll be able to settle on a role for yourself. After all, you have the choice to choose between playing as a DPS, a tank, or even a support.
#2: Know Who You Want to Play

So, you know how you want to play the game. All thatâs left to do is to determine which hero will be able to best support your playstyle and selected role. Now, this is easier said than done because of the overwhelming number of heroes you can choose from.
However, there are certain things you need to look at to determine what hero you want to main. For example, if youâre trying to figure out which support hero you should main, then youâll first have to figure out which hero supports your specific playstyle.
Are you a fan of playing passively and only healing or damage boosting your teammates? Then Mercy might be the hero youâre looking for. The same goes for every other role in the game.
One very important thing our professional players always recommend is you shouldnât have just one hero you main. Instead, you should have at least two heroes you main and general knowledge of every hero. Like this, youâll be able to adapt to anything the game throws at you.
#3: Donât Stop Practicing
Improving your aim is well and good, but many players start neglecting their practice in favor of just hopping into ranked matches. Although this might sound good on paper, itâs actually the opposite of that.
The reason for this is that in a ranked match youâre constantly under pressure. Because of this, you donât have the time to try new strategies or playstyles. Instead, you automatically start playing the way you know best.
This way doesnât have any chance of improvement, as itâs similar to someone who has climbed half of a set of stairs and is now walking the same two steps instead of moving forward. Our professional players, despite being professionals at the game, still go through their Aim Labs routines as you can never neglect the fundamentals.
#4: Play the Objective

This oneâs rather straightforward so weâll keep it short. All of the game modes, at least in competitive, are objective based. Even still, many players tend to neglect the objective in favor of getting more kills against the enemy.
Although this mindset is good if what youâre chasing is an easy play of the game at the end of the match, it wonât help your team win. Improving at any game means winning more, and if you want to win, then you should start playing the objective more. A game won with 3 eliminations is better than a game lost with 30 eliminations.
#5: Donât Be Afraid of Queue Time

Since Overwatch 2 is a free to play game, the number of players searching for matches is always high. Because of this, many players end up opting for roles that would reduce the queue time as much as possible.
However, this might be well and good for other game modes, but we definitely donât recommend you do this in competitive. Although youâll get into a match quicker, you wonât be able to play the role you truly excel at, which will stop you from improving at the rate you could have.
Of course, thereâs always the option to queue without the role queue system too if youâre really in a hurry to find a match.
#6: Use The Best Control Settings
Playing around with the settings is extremely important if youâre looking to improve at any game, especially if itâs an FPS game that heavily relies on the control settings. Sensitivity, button layout, and more can make a world of difference in a game like Overwatch 2.
Although some players believe playing with a controller means you donât have to change the settings at all, that isnât true. On the contrary, with a controller, you need whatever advantage you can get, especially if youâre someone who plays with or against keyboard and mouse players often.
Luckily, weâve already compiled not only the best Overwatch 2 settings for a controller but also the best Overwatch 2 settings for a keyboard and mouse that you can apply for yourself and notice the difference.
#7: Make Every Life Count
Because every player has an infinite number of respawns in the most played game modes of Overwatch 2, many players end up just rushing into the enemy thinking theyâll just respawn so thereâs no use playing safe.
Although we understand where these players are coming from, at the same time all it does is give the enemy team the advantage. The time it takes for you to respawn and get to the objective might be all the time the enemy team needs to either end the match or gain a huge advantage over your team.
Because of this, we recommend you ask yourself what the situation calls for. If the potential risk of rushing in outweighs the potential reward, then it might be a good idea to save your life and not take the chance.
#8: Start Playing With Good Players
As they say, a team is only as strong as its weakest link. Although this might sound a little harsh, if you play with a team of complete strangers and end up getting paired with players who donât know how to play the game well, youâll only be restricting yourself.
Therefore, we recommend you try to surround yourself with good players by building a team that you exclusively play with, at least when it comes to competitive. Like this, not only will you be able to climb the ranks, but youâll be able to improve in the process as well.
Of course, we understand that some players might not be able to gather a team like this, in which case we recommend you higher a professional player from Eloking to play with you. Thereâs no better way to improve in a game than by playing alongside a professional.
#9: You Donât Have to Get in Game Chat to Communicate

As we mentioned above, Overwatch 2 is a game that heavily focuses on teamwork and coordination, and what better way to coordinate more effectively than by communicating?
However, the issue with this is that most players assume that the only way of communicating with teammates, especially when those teammates are strangers, is by getting on game chat and verbally talking to them.
Now, we understand that a lot of players might not want to talk with random people on the internet, or they might not be able to because of a lack of a mic or a language barrier. In this case, you should use the second and arguably better way of communication in Overwatch 2. In game pings.
PC users have the option of pressing the middle mouse button or the G key, while all console users need to press the left D pad button to bring up the ping menu. These pings are shown to every member of the team and can be used to get various important messages across. Making a habit of using them will allow your coordination to improve drastically.
